ISBT PRESIDENTIAL AWARD
The ISBT Presidential Award, which has
been instituted at the initiative of the Foundation Transfusion
Medicine in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, which also sponsors this
Award. This Award will be granted to “a senior person who has made
eminent contributions to transfusion medicine or a related field
through basic or applied research, the practice of transfusion therapy
or through significant educational and/or service contributions to the
field. The goal of these contributions and the effect there of must
have had a significant input in transfusion medicine.”
The ISBT Presidential Award consists of a special medal, a certificate
with the name of the nominee and a prize in cash.
The Board of the Foundation Transfusion Medicine is composed by W.G.
van Aken, president, R.F. de Soet, treasurer, H.W. Reesink, secretary
general, C.Th. Smit Sibinga, vice-president and P.F.W. Strengers,
member.
For the each selection of the candidate prize winner(s), a Nomination
Committee will be instituted. The members of the Nomination Committee
are the ISBT President, the ISBT President-Elect, the President of the
ISBT Congress at which the ceremony will take place, and the Chairman
and a Member of the Foundation Transfusion Medicine.
All ISBT members will be invited to propose one or more candidates for
this unique Award. The requirements in order to propose a candidate
are the following: a abbreviated curriculum vitae of the proposed
candidate and a description of his/her contribution in blood
transfusion or transfusion medicine, accompanied with three signatures
of ISBT members, who support the nomination, should be sent to the
secretary general of the Foundation Transfusion medicine. From of the
proposed nominees, the Nomination Committee will select the best
candidate for the ISBT Presidential Award.
At the ISBT International Congress, a special ISBT Presidential Award
Symposium will be organised, at which the selected nominee(s) will
present a lecture covering his/her expertise. Also papers by (an)
other specialist(s) in the field of the nominee will be presented. In
the evening of the Symposium, an invitational gala dinner will be held
to honour the winner of the ISBT Presidential Award.
