Excursion Programme
We are pleased to offer you this selection of
optional tours at special congress rates which
highlight our unique Thai culture, history and
religion. All registered delegates and accompanying
persons will be able to take advantage of
our excursion and activity programme which will
operate daily from Friday November 11 to Wednesday
November 16, 2005 inclusive. A minimum
number of participants is required for each tour.

1. SAWASDEE BANGKOK TOUR
(morning tour)
09.00-12.00 – daily service
FLOWER MARKET, TEMPLE & GEMS
This city tour aims to orientate you with your host
city, Bangkok. You will get to explore three very different
and interesting places during a walk about at
the city ’s bustling flower market, a serene Buddhist
temple and what is claimed to be the world’s biggest
jewellery store. Transfers are by air-conditioned
vehicles with English commentary audio played
onboard. Our team of tour guides will ensure
your smooth arrival and departure at each stop.
Price: Complimentary for the delegates who reserve
the accommodation via ISBT official housing bureau.
2. ROYAL GRAND PALACE
(morning / afternoon tour)

The spectacular royal Grand Palace is a “must see”
attraction for every visitor to Bangkok and a wonder
of the modern world. Built in 1782 by King Rama I,
the palace is a venue for state and religious
functions. Within the palace compounds you will
be able to enter the interior chamber of Wat Phra
Kaew -Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which
houses Thailand ’s most revered Buddha image,
carved from a single piece of jade and believed to
be the protector of the kingdom.

3. CANAL CRUISE
(morning tour)

The most refreshing route around Bangkok remains
off the tourist map for most, but travelling by boat
is a fun way to explore the exotic and traditional
side of the city that was once known as ‘Venice of
the East’. Cruising along the backwater canals of
Thonburi we will also visit Wat Arun -the towering
Temple of Dawn and the royal barge museum.

4. TRIO OF TEMPLES

As 95% of Bangkok residents are Buddhist there
are more than 400 wats (wat means temple) in the
city. On this tour you will see three of the most
remarkable - the Golden Buddha Temple which
houses a solid gold statue weighing 5.5 tonnes;
the reclining Buddha statue at Wat Po with its
enormous gold-covered Buddha image lying
majestically on its side and the Marble Temple, Wat
Benchamaborpit, representing one of the finest
examples of Thai temple architecture.

5. RAGS TO RICHES
(afternoon tour)

Armed with a collection of credit cards and cash…
and ready to bargain, we hit three of the best
shopping centres in Bangkok. Our first stop is at
the World Trade Centre neighborhood where you
can find Narayandaphan, Thailand’s largest handicraft
store and Gaysorn Plaza shopping mall with
its collection of up-market designer shops. We
continue our shopping crusade with a train ride
aboard the elevated BTS Sky Train to MBK, a
shopping mall packed with shops selling discount
clothing, watches, audio and geared to the Thai youth. Our last port of call is at Thailand’s largest
gems gallery where you’ll be able to watch gifted
craftsmen creating unique pieces of jewelry as you
walk through the small workshop.

6. FLOATING MARKET & ROSE GARDEN
(full day tour)
08.30-18.00 – daily service
A drive through the countryside 110kms outside of
Bangkok and an exhilarating 15-minute cruise
along narrow canals, aboard a long-tail speed
boat, brings you to the unique rural open-air
market. At the colourful market vendors from small
wooden canoes sell their produce. The small boats
carry a variety of goods from food and drinks to
sun hats. The market also features a shaded building open to the breeze where you can shop
for souvenirs and have a cool drink. We then
transfer to the Rose Garden Country Resort for a
buffet lunch and cultural show at their Thai village.
There’s even a chance to ride an elephant.

7. AYUTTHAYA WORLD HERITAGE CITY
(full day tour)
08.00-17.00 – daily service
Visit the ancient capital of Siam for 417 years,
which today is a World
Heritage Site and has some of
Thailand ’s most important
historic landmarks. The
modern city is dotted with
evocative ruins of once magnificent
temples and fortresses.
You will visit several temple
ruins as well as Bang Pa-In, a royal summer palace,
before cruising back to
Bangkok with a buffet lunch
served on board the modern
river cruiser.
