Opening Ceremony, Opening of the Trade Exhibition and Welcome Cocktail Party

Delegates are welcomed by the President of the ISBT and the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee. The Opening Ceremony will showcase an array of traditional cultural performances. A cocktail reception will be held at the exhibition area. The reception is where delegates meet old friends and make new acquaintances for a night of enjoyable conversation.
DGTI Morning Run / ISBT Fun Run

Following the tradition of the DGTI and as organised during the International Congress in Cape Town, there will be a morning run for ISBT/ DGTI congress participants in the streets of Berlin. Signing up is possible via the website and at the congress.

ISBT will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a
banquet in the historical Crown Prince’s Palace.
This “Palais Unter den Linden” was built in 1663
and converted to the Baroque style in 1732. It
was subsequently occupied by Prince August
William, the brother of Frederick the Great and
then by Crown Prince Frederick William and his
wife Luise from 1793. After further conversions
the future Emperor Frederick III and his wife
Victoria took up residence in 1856. William II, the
last of the German Emperors, was born here on
January 27,1859. The building suffered severe
damage in the Second World War, but was rebuilt
between 1968-1969 with the aid of old engravings.
It was here that the Treaty of Unifi cation between
West and East Germany was signed on August 31,
1990.
Berlin is still young at heart and will welcome you
in 2010 to a great summer event in the Palais and
its beautiful garden.
Enjoy different entertainment on every fl oor with
open seating, excellent dining, fascinating artists
and a swinging dance party.
Transportation will be arranged from the ICC
to the Kronprinzenpalais at 19.00 hours.

Payment
Tour fees are to be paid in Euro and should be paid according to the procedure described on the registration form and online. All tours should be paid in advance before June 7, 2010. 1. Videobustour: The Time Travel Shuttle

The Time Travel Shuttle is a new city tour by bus. The bus is equipped with fl at screens which show videos of each historical place visited on the tour. This makes it easy to compare the past and the present. The combination of city bus tour and historic fi lm footage is unique in Europe. Via the screens on the bus, you will see the former City Palace. You can look into the interior of Hitler’s Reich Chancellery; drive with John F. Kennedy through Berlin, and see the Wall fall again! Our route also covers the classic sightseeing attractions and ends in the heart of the contemporary city. Sightseeing Stopovers: You also can leave the bus for a deeper experience of some of the historical places.

2. City of Design

Since January 2006 Berlin is offi cially known as the up to now only European metropolis with the title “City of Design”. Through this choice of UNESCO, Berlin has changed its image from an arcane hot spot to a well-known European capital of art, design and fashion. There are about 6,300 companies of young designers, couturiers and architects located in Berlin. On our journey through this vibrant part of the city you will get to know some creative entrepreneurs from different branches. By visiting some selected galleries and studios you will learn about the “fusion concept“, which is typically Berlin. Enjoy exclusive insights, look behind the scenes and discuss the newest trends and developments with youngsters from the design business. Further more you will visit branches of inter national designers, which enrich Berlin with their futuristic compositions.
3. World Cultural Heritage: The Isle of Museums

The Isle of Museums, a World Cultural Heritage since 1996, is an unique ensemble of buildings e.g. “Altes Museum”, “Alte Nationalgalerie”, “Pergamon museum”. Experts will guide you to the highlights of the Isle: the “Betender Knabe”, the masterpieces of Claude Monet or the altar of Pergamon – there is something for everybody. Towards the end of 2009 the “Neue Museum”, redesigned by David Chipperfi eld, will be reopened and there you will have the chance to visit the Nofretete (Nefertiti) – the most beautiful woman of Berlin!
4. City Walk: The Magic of Berlin’s backyards

No other quarter in Berlin has so many tales to tell and picturesque views to show, so many hidden curiosities but also contemplative places such as the so-called “Scheunenviertel” (barn quarter) around the Hackesche Höfe and Oranienburger Strasse. In our walking tour you will take a look behind the facades off the tourist trails. The focus will be on the “magic backyards”, the Jewish quarter as well as the art and gallery scene right in the middle of Berlin. Apart from visiting well-known and unknown backyards, the gallery scene in Augustenstrasse will be part of our sightseeing tour.

A new trend in Berlin is Sight Running, a city running tour combined with culture and sight seeing. Both regular and occasional runners have the opportunity to explore the German capital city from a new perspective. Leave the stopwatch and competitive spirit at home, instead run and see the sights of Berlin at a relaxed speed while listening to your personal guide giving you interesting information along the way. The 7 km (4,4 miles) tour will for example go past the Federal Chancellery, Bellevue Palace, the Victory Column, the public park Tier - garten, Potsdamer Platz, parts of The Wall, Hitler’s Bunker, Holocaust Memorial, the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag. Expect one hour Sight Running pleasure for up to 10 runners. The start and fi nish is on the South Side of Berlin’s Central Station (“Berlin Hauptbahnhof”), Tours with different destinations start twice a day at 8.00 hours and 19.00 hours. Monday, June 28 and Tuesday, June 29 and at 8.00 hours. Runners will fi nd detailed information on the congress homepage from May 2010.
6. Excursion to Potsdam: More than just palaces and gardens

Potsdam: Palaces, parks – and more…much more! The palaces and parks of Potsdam belong to UNESCO’s world cultural heritage. Sanssouci, the New Palace and Cecilienhof Palace are fi rst class sights. On our tour we will wander back in time to the Prussian era and look at the most famous palaces. Sanssouci the new palace and Cecilienhof Palace are just class sites making the journey to Potsdam worth it. We would also like you to choose not so well known sites of the city, for example the beautiful Belvedere at the Pfi ngstberg, the only Russian colony in Germany and “Little Amsterdam”, a Dutch quarter from the 18th century, as well as some other exciting places. At the Glienicke Bridge, also named the “Bridge of Spies” by the media, the history of the Cold War with its exchange of spies will become vivid again.
