Transportation Information

Travel by Air

The main airport in the Western Cape is Cape Town International Airport, 20 minutes drive from the Cape Town city centre. Eighteen international and national carriers service Cape Town International Airport. Some international carriers fly directly to Cape Town, some stop over in Johannesburg and then carry on to Cape Town, while others terminate their flights in Johannesburg, which necessitates a short 2-hour domestic flight.

The preferred carrier for ISBT 2006, South African Airways (SAA), is offering delegates special fares over the period of the event on a first come, first serve basis. Early booking is strongly suggested as flights to, from and within South Africa are generally in heavy demand. These fares are available for flights booked through Turners Travel or directly with SAA on their intercontinental, regional and domestic services, subject to the relevant class availability. Conditions will apply. Enquiries can be made by contacting your nearest SAA office. Contact details for all the SAA Offices can be obtained from the SAA website www.flysaa.com. South African residents should contact Victoria Ndaba on 011-978 1100.
For all SAA bookings, please quote reference number AIR.GC.05.000145. Should you encounter any difficulties in contacting SAA, you may contact Gill Slaughter at Gills@turnergroup.co.za and your email will be forwarded to the SAA Head Office. SA Airlink and SA Express also cover most domestic routes. Other airlines include Comair (operated by British Airways) and Nationwide, as well as no frills domestic operators Kulula and 1Time Airline that can be booked online.

Travel by Road

When visiting Cape Town delegates will mostly arrive and depart by air. On arrival, please be advised that public transport is limited, but getting around is relatively simple and convenient using taxis or hired car. To rent a car you will need a current South African or an international driver’s license. It is possible to rent a car in one city and return it in another.

Travel to and from Cape Town International Airport

Cape Town International Airport is 30 km from the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and city centre. As public transport is limited, getting to your hotel could be costly and inconvenient. Please note that the transfers are not private and will run on a shuttle service due to volumes, therefore pre-booking and pre-paying is preferable.
