| SS2 HBV NAT Testing in an Endemic Region: Approaching a Rational Algorithm | |
| This symposium will focus on the problems of testing blood donors for HBV in South East Asia, an endemic region for HBV. Serology testing for HBV, especially occult and chronic infections, is difficult due to the problems associated with anti-HBc testing in such regions which would result in an unacceptable loss of donors. An alternative is to use NAT testing, but the high sensitivity of current tests requires specific testing algorithms to overcome the problems of nonspecific or false positive test results. Testing algorithms which interdict infectious donations without loss of specificity will be discussed. | |
