Words of Welcome

Dear Colleagues:

On behalf of the Organising Committee of the XVIIth Regional Congress of the ISBT, Europe and the National Congress of the Sociedad Española de Transfusión Sanguinea, it is a privilege and a great pleasure to invite to you to come to Madrid (Spain) to attend this event, that will be held from 23 – 27 June 2007.

We are aware that there are currently numerous scientific meetings regarding transfusion medicine, most of which are characterised by a high scientific level and an efficient organisation. Most of these cover specific issues in the field of transfusion medicine. The meeting ISBT is currently organising, is however, to cover this area from a global or broader point of view. We believe that these meetings are also convenient for the professionals of transfusion medicine, since they provide them with an opportunity to review the latest advance in this field and discuss especially relevant topics.

As for the venue where this meeting takes place, Madrid is currently renowned for being one of Europe’s most vibrating cities, with a blend of tradition and an ever-expanding cosmopolitanism. The city offers an enjoyable place to hold this meeting (historical sites, museums, cinemas, concerts and shopping areas). Moreover, the city has wonderful surroundings that provide ideal sites for one-day trips. For instance, the historical cities of Segovia, Toledo etc, true beacons of how this land has historically enabled the coexistence of different cultures.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Madrid and share an unforgettable experience in a convivial atmosphere for teaching, and learning and enjoying this event.
